Creative Spotlight: Debbie Forbes Author of 'Campbells of Ackendown'
With the creative arts at the heart of everything we do, Blue Door Property Guardians are proud to showcase the talents of our creative network.
It is with great pleasure to announce that our business manager, Debbie Forbes, has recently completed her much-anticipated debut novel Campbells of Ackendown.
Inspired by research into her own heritage, Forbes takes us back to 18th century Jamaica:
"The Scottish Campbell family have made their fortune as plantation owners. Their life of luxury is contrasted with that of the slaves upon the pimento plantation at Ackendown, but their lives have become intertwined with that of the people they own, and none more so than Gifty, their trusted housekeeper.
The Campbells survive the Tacky Revolt, and when fierce, hard ruling son John Campbell takes over at Ackendown, the relationship between the Campbells and Gifty’s family and friends becomes even more complex.
Secrets are revealed and romantic liaisons formed, leading to a dangerous entanglement that will have far-reaching consequences for the Campbells and the slaves closest to them."
A gripping narrative set against the harsh backdrop of slavery in 18th Century Jamaica, Campbells of Ackendown tells a story of revolt, romance, and secrets.
